Hand Drawn Homes: Zuilen, April 2022
Participatory art work: Monotype on paper
In March 2022, Sarah Mann spent time getting to know the residents of the thirteen neighbourhoods in Zuilen, Utrecht.
The community focused art work set out to connect people who call Zuilen their home, by sharing stories and drawing. Standing in the streets with paper and a pencil, Sarah and the residents drew their houses and shared stories about themselves, the neighbourhood and their connection to it. Some, even inviting the moment into their own home for longer conversations, seated drawing and a cup of tea.
The final monoprint, which was exhibited as part of the ZIMIHC Zuilen Kunst Route, is a collaborative artwork, that brings together the Hand Drawn Homes of Zuilen’s residents – showing the variety of buildings called home, in just one of Utrecht’s diverse districts. In this way, the artwork connected neighbours who may otherwise have stayed separated.
Hand Drawn Homes: Zuilen is part of a larger ongoing international project led by Sarah Mann.
